What is Depression?

Depression can affect people in different ways and manifest itself in various symptoms. If you are feeling low from time to time, this is normal in life. Depression is more than just feeling unhappy and down for a few days or the changes of moods according to life’s events. It is the long-lasting feeling of sadness, unhappiness, and hopelessness. Depression is not a sign of weakness or something you can just “pulling yourself together” or “get over it”.

Sometimes there might be a trigger that causes depression such as life-changing situation: losing of loved ones, losing job, moving house, giving birth, etc. But sometimes it can also be an accumulation of stressful events in life, or one might be depressed for no obvious reasons at all.
